Class of 2020 National Academic Awards Announced

Christopher Columbus High School is proud to recognize the National Merit Semifinalists, Commended, and Hispanic Recognition for the Class of 2020.

The Class of 2020 produced four (4) semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, each with the opportunity to continue in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Nearly 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the program by taking the PSAT. The following students were among the top 16,000 students in the Nation to receive this honor and have an opportunity to continue in the competition for over 7,500 scholarships worth about $32 million to be offered next spring.

Twelve Explorers were recognized as Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Program. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the 2018 PSAT.

Commended: Alessio M. Amor, Adolfo J. Anzola, Mikel A. Barbeite, Salvador E. Blanco, Julio A. Brea, Kevin M. Cejas, Daniel A. Luna, Dennis J. Martinez, Jose P. Osorio, Andres A. Perez, Ethan M. Trueba and Patrick F. Valerius.

The College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) identifies academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. Each year, the NHRP honors about 7,000 of the highest-scoring students from over 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT. These students are from the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Mariana Islands, and the Marshall Islands, as well as U.S. citizens attending schools abroad.
