Athletics Program

At Christopher Columbus High School, athletics are an integral part of learning and student life. Explorers are encouraged to excel and win, but the principles of self-discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship are the underlying goals of the Columbus athletic program.

A member of the Florida High School Athletic Association and the Greater Miami Athletic Conference, Columbus is the only private school in the state of Florida to compete at the 8A-7A level, which means that our Explorers play in the most competitive districts and have the greatest amount of exposure to college coaches recruiting student-athletes.

At Columbus, students also compete in non GMAC clubs such as Fishing and Scuba Diving. Intramural activities including dodgeball, soccer, flag football, and basketball provide friendly competition and fun among class year levels after school.
Columbus won the Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup All-Sports Award in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2018, 2021 and 2022 for the best high school athletic program for boys in Florida (8A/9A) and the 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Miami Herald Major Sports Award representing the best boys sports program in Miami-Dade County (Large Schools).
