After receiving his Associate of Arts from Miami Dade Community College, he attended Florida Atlantic University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Education. Roger began his professional career with Miami Dade County Public Schools in 1969 as a primary teacher at Little River Elementary. He has since fulfilled many challenging roles as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent, Associate Superintendent and Superintendent of Miami Dade County Public Schools.

Lee Evans (Alumni Parent)
During the late 1960s and 1970s, Lee Evans was the leading voice in fundraising for Christopher Columbus High School and created the Athletic Booster Club. Working alongside school principals, Brother Leo Francis, Brother Hugh Andrew, and the faculty, Lee solicited donations which were utilized for scholarships and capital improvement projects like the addition of air conditioning to classrooms and the building of the track. Brother Kevin’s dream of having glass backboards for the basketball court was realized due to Lee’s fundraising, as well as many other rewarding projects.

Pedro Garcia-Casals (Administrator/Alumni Parent)
Pedro joined the Columbus faculty in 1991 as a Spanish teacher, and today, along with his administrative responsibilities as Dean of Curriculum and Professional Development, he chooses to continue in the classroom, enjoying two of his life-long passions – teaching and literature. We can be certain that Pedro’s commitment to Columbus will most likely continue until the day he retires from teaching altogether.

David Pugh (Administrator/Alumni Parent)
David has served Christopher Columbus High School as a Marist educator for 22 years. He became the 13th principal of the school in June 2014. He had previously served on Columbus’ administration as Assistant Principal for six years and before that as the Guidance Department Chairperson. While serving as Chair, he acted as the NCAA Clearinghouse Coordinator, Silver Knight Awards Moderator, McKay Scholarship Coordinator, and the National Honor Society Moderator. He has also coached freshman/JV football and baseball from 1998–2003.
