XC Week 3 Results

The Cross Country team caped out week 3 of the season hosting its King of the Hill 5k with Lourdes Academy. The meet drew 50 teams out and 1150 athletes running between four races.

The meet included Mr. Cooper and the band rockin' out as the athletes charged the hill, the Movie Club getting footage for a short production on the event, CCNN Live hosting interviews for a package, maintenance bringing truckloads of resources (water, speakers, flags, etc.), yearbook representatives taking photos for the 2019-20 Adelante, and tons of teachers and administrators on hand to show their support.

Head coach Eric Pino raced the top 10 JV boys (numbers 11-20 on the team) against all the other varsity programs in South Florida and the team finished 3rd overall. The Hellions stepped up against the tougher competition, with sophomore Marcus Mata and freshman Kevin Duran finishing 19th and 21st respectively in the race. Both finished the course with an average pace of 6 minutes per mile.

The remaining members of JV team (numbers 21-45) raced in the JV race and dominated. They came in 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 11 place individually. This group of Hellions was led by sophomore Nico Trujio, freshman Mike Alvarez, sophomore Gus Alfonso, freshman Michael Rossi-Montero, and junior Chris Cruz. The future truly is bright!

The varsity boys (top 8 runners) traveled up to Ocala to take on the best teams in the state to see where they stand and finished just short - 5th out of 40 teams and 3rd in Class 4A. Many Hellions ran career bests and all ran season bests. They were led by sophomore Adrian Bichara and junior Christian Ivonnet, who raced the 5k course at 5:20 pace. Those two were followed closely by junior Malcolm Brown, junior Alvaro Canarte, and junior Donato Scarcello. The team had their top 5 runners come in within 25 secs of each other, which is an impressive pace overall!

The entire team will race at the Spanish River Invite in Boca this Saturday.
