Wrestling Team Wins NM Invitational

Congratulations to the varsity wrestling team who won the 5th Annual 12-team North Miami Invitational Wrestling Tournament, held this pass Saturday. 

The win marks the second year in a row that the varsity wrestlers have won the trophy in a row. Five teams where defeated in succession enroute to the title. The Explorers defeated Jackson High School 69-12, Dr. Krop High School 66-12, Hialeah Gardens High School 72-3, Mater Academy High School 69-9 and a tough Naples Lely High School in the finals 48-30.

Twenty-one Explorers competed throughout out the day and several went undefeated, although only one Explorer pinned all 5 opponents in the first period [in less a minute] Charles Huffman (junior) at 120 Ibs. Freshman Sebastian Melguizo also had a great tournament, defeating his Jackson opponent who was last year's state finalist.
