Alfonso “Flash” Fernandez ‘84 Returns to Columbus as Associate Development Director

Aflonso Fernandez, better known as Flash, has taken on the role of Columbus’ Associate Development Director, replacing former Development Director Mike Harris ’88.  Flash’s official start date was August 1, 2017.

Flash brings 16 years of pharmaceutical and equipment sales experience to the position, having successfully launched and marketed dozens of branded medicines while continuously achieving top levels and surpassing goals.  Most recently, Flash was the Florida Regional Sales Manager for Lancer Direct and a Clinical Sales Specialist for Medac Pharmaceuticals.

Flash has remained close to Columbus ever since he graduated in 1984.  He went on to attend Florida International University where he received a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) in 1988 and then worked at Columbus as a teacher and coach for nearly 20 years (1988 – 2006).  Flash has taught Physical Education, History, and Biology and has served as the Explorers’ Head Freshmen Basketball Coach, Assistant JV Basketball Coach, Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach, Head Volleyball Coach, and Assistant JV Football Coach.  He also has run the popular A-Rod Basketball Tournament at Columbus for the past 15 years.

For the past three years Flash has volunteered his time on the Alumni Association’s Executive Committee where he has played an important role in increasing the alumni participation in school events, activities, and fundraising campaigns.

“I am very excited about taking on Columbus’ Associate Development Director position - my dream job!  All any salesman could ask for is to be able sell a product they believe in, what could be better than selling Columbus?  I feel blessed to be able to help the advancement of the school that has given me so much.”  -Alfonso “Flash” Fernandez ‘84
