Henderson ’17 Tabbed as SEC Freshman of the Week

Freshman DB C.J. Henderson '17 picked up the first SEC honor of his career, earning SEC Freshman of the Week for the University of Florida Gators.

Henderson recorded an interception in the fourth quarter against Tennessee, running it back for a 16-yard touchdown, the second of his career, to give Florida the 20-13 lead. He became the first Florida freshman to record a pick-six in back-to-back games in program history and the first Gator to do so according to records dating back to 1973.

He is also the only true freshman in the nation to have returned an interception for a touchdown in consecutive games, according to records dating back to the 1996 season.

The former Explorer is one of two freshmen to have recorded at least one pick-six this season and is the only one to have two under his belt. Through his first two games as a Gator, Henderson is now tied for first in program history for most interceptions returned for touchdowns in a season, with the all-time record for a career being four.
