Christopher Columbus High School offers a wide array of summer programs for students ranging in age from third grade through current Explorers. From athletics to academics and the arts, the Explorers Summer experience is a wonderful way to introduce your children to the finest all-boy Catholic high school in Miami-Dade County.   • Mas Family Program Summer Enrichment

    Dates: June 12-30              

     CCHS students already accepted into the Mas Family Scholars program are required to take two classes - Personal Fitness and Honors Introduction to Art Appreciation.

  • CCNN Live Summer Institute

    Dates: June 12-16 and June 19-23
    $150 (1 week) $250 (for both weeks)
    Information: At the CCNN Live summer institute, students from grades 6-9 learn journalism and video production skills from experts and students alike. Students will learn to write a fair and balanced story, shoot, edit and create visual effects for their pieces. Principles of journalism will be discussed and Maggie Rodriguez (CBS) and Pam Giganti (WPBS) will give students their personal perspective on the media.
    The camp will culminate with students pairing up and showcasing their newly learned skills. Student work will be critiqued and revised by teachers as well as industry professionals. This will provide students the entry level skill-set needed to further their abilities as emerging young journalists.

    Information: Welcome! Press On Running is back with its partner SoleRUNNERS Running Store to bring you Press On Running Club powered by GoRun. We are excited to bring you a memorable summer running experience full of fast runs, good times, and lots of laughs. Our club services go beyond the time we spend at practice with each respective athlete. We provide continual monitoring/reports of their progress in the form of splits, logs, mileage charts, etc. We work closely with nutritionists and physical trainers in the area to offer a well-rounded program.
    This program will focus on the conditioning of runners of all levels--modifying workouts to fit their needs. It will focus on the building of a base mileage and the introduction of workouts that range from fartleks, tempos/thresholds, and hills - once each runner's fitness level calls for it. Focus will be given to body strengthening through calisthenics and stretching to ensure a perfectly developed runner.
    Is this for boys or girls and what ages?
    The club continues to be open to both boys and girls of all fitness levels, in grades 3rd - 12th for the 2016-2017 school year. 

    Where exactly do you meet and how long is practice?
    We meet at Shelter #10 by the hill in Tropical Park every Monday-Thursday at 6pm and Fridays at 7am.. Practices last from 6pm-7:30pm Monday-Thursday & 7:00am-8:30am on Fridays. 

    What is included in the registration fee?

    Each registered runner will receive:
    • Free registration into 4th of July 5k @ Indian Hammock Park (registration must be done at camp during 1st week)

    What should I bring to practice?
    A basic running watch (GPS not needed) and water bottle (a cooler will be available to refill). Make sure to dress in running attire and sneakers. We will be having an informational meeting the first week about proper running shoes, so don't buy new ones just yet!

    What happens if it rains?
    We use Remind, the app, to keep you up to date on weather updates.  We meet at the park even if it is raining and try to wait it out (unless otherwise stated on the hotline and social media).

    Do you offer a sibling discount?
    Yes. Each child gets a 10% discount.  Email us for discount code.

  • Web Ball Summer Baseball Camp

    Dates: May 22 – July 14
    May 22 – June 9
    Monday – Friday | 4-7 pm
    June 12 – July 14
    Monday – Friday | 2-5 pm
    $895 (includes uniform shirt, practice shirt and league game fees)
    Information: Web Ball Summer Baseball Camp covers all facets of the game including hitting, fielding, pitching, base running and team play. Campers will be coached by various members of the Christopher Columbus Baseball Staff, including Head Coach Joe Weber.

  • 43rd Annual Columbus Basketball/Summer Camp

    The Columbus Basketball Camp is for boys and girls of all abilities who want to improve their basketball skills.
    June 12 - July 21
    Half Day - Basketball Only
    8 am – 12 noon
    Full Day - Basketball & Other Activities
    8 am - 4 pm
    Week of July 10 & July 17
    12th Year of Rookie Camp
    for incoming 9th and 10th graders

    *Lunch is included. Activities: basketball, other sports, field trips (minimal additional fee).
    Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for your children. We strive to continue the Columbus tradition of excellence by offering one of the best basketball programs in a state-of-the-art, air-conditioned facility. We offer extended hours for full day campers to enjoy different recreational activities daily until 4:00pm. Lunch is included in our full-day camp fee.

    The Columbus Basketball Camp activities are supervised by an adult staff. We offer a variety of
    recreational and educational activities for our campers. Field trips* will include movies, bowling, museum visits, swimming and our famous annual “Talent Show.”
    Other Sports:
    Full-day campers enjoy their afternoons playing a variety of sports including: softball, football, soccer, kickball, volleyball, tennis, ultimate Frisbee football and Dr. Burrus’ famous Arm Wrestling Event. They will also have fun playing board games such as: checkers, chess, Sorry, Monopoly, card games, knock hockey, Battleship and others.
    Coaching Staff
    Director: Butch Staiano
    During his tenure as Columbus’ Head Basketball Coach for 21 years and a Columbus coach for 28 years, Coach Staiano has won 360 games. Although he no longer coaches the team, Coach Staiano continues to run the Columbus basketball camp placing emphasis on the offensive and defensive fundamentals.
    Henry Lorenzo
    As Head Basketball Coach of the Columbus Varsity team for the 2015-2016 season, Coach Lorenzo continues his 20-year career as a Head Coach and brings a record of 382-168 with him. His team has won the District 15 Championship, Region 4 Championship, and the 6A State Semi-Finals.
    Randy Amador
    Randy has returned to coach at his alma mater. He was a star point guard for several very
    successful teams at Columbus in the mid-90’s and he continues the tradition of winning in his coaching career.
    Natalie Gonzalez
    This is Natalie’s 14th year with the Columbus Basketball Camp. She is a Head Counselor and is in charge of registration and field-trips.
    Warren Butler
    Warren was a star point guard and Captain of the 1976 Explorers who went 23-6 and were
    Southern Division Champs. He played at Florida Southern College and on a National Championship team. Warren has coached at Miami-Dade Junior College and at Barry University.
    Danny Rodriguez
    Danny has returned to teach at his alma mater. During his time as a student, Danny was a 3-year starter on the Varsity team. He has previous coaching experience for both boys and girls high-school basketball.
  • Wrestling Camp

    Date: Summer workouts begin Wednesday, June 14th from 6-8 pm and will continue throughout the summer on Wednesday evenings. 

     Led by head coach Jim Husk and the rest of the Christopher Columbus High School coaching staff, our workouts bring a combined 80+ years of wrestling experience to the mat.

  • Football

    All Incoming freshmen football players must have a current physical to participte in fall sports. Once completed, physicals are to be submitted to Brother Herb Baker in the training room facility.

    HUDL contact system: 
    All freshmen football players must be registered in our HUDL contact system for updates on practice dates, times, and messages. More info on setting up your HUDL account will be given at workouts in June. Information needed includes: freshmen football players full name, cell phone number, cell phone carrier, email address, and position. 

    Summer Practice Days/Times:
    Summer practice will begin on Monday, June 12th. We will practice on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m

    Mandatory workout gear can be purchased through the first week of workouts.  

    There will be an incoming Freshmen parent meeting on Wednesday, June 14th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Columbus gym.

    Starting on Monday, July 17th, we will begin practicing Monday through Friday from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m.

    Summer Days off:
    We will have no practice on Friday, June 30, through Wednesday, July 5 in observance of Independence Day.

  • Soccer

    Christopher Columbus Summer Soccer Workouts focus on individualized player development within and position-specific instruction. Our coaches and trainers have played at the highest levels of the game and understand the importance of athletic development, that is why we incorporate technical training.
