GMAC Wrestling Championship Recap

The varsity wrestling team competed in the 34 team Greater Miami Athletic Conference Tournament this past weekend at Ronald Reagan High School in Doral and came in third place behind District 16 rivals Southwest and runner up South Dade High School. 

At the end of the long, two day battle, the team placed 8 Explorers on the medal stand including champions Christian Guzman (120 lbs. - defending state champ and 2x GMAC champ) and Javier Taylor (182 lbs.)
 
Making it to the finals but having to settle for silver was TJ Brown (195 lbs.) and Derrick Hart (285 lbs.) Third place winner was Jamie Rodriquez at 126 lbs. while teammates Anthony Piaia (106 lbs.) and Michael Lynne (132 lbs.) came in 4th. Rocco D’ Ascoli placed 5th.
 
The varsity team will travel to Jupiter High School this weekend for a tournament to conclude its regular season before the FHSAA District Tournament.
