CCHS & Ayuda-A-Educar Work Together to Support Marist Education in Venezuela

Marist Educators helping Marist Educators was the initiative that helped to support and feed over 400 Marist educators and their families in 11 different ministries sponsored by the Marist Brothers in Venezuela.

Earlier this semester, CCHS was approached by the Ayuda a Educar foundation to help feed Marist educators working in under-privileged areas of Venezuela. As most are aware, the political, social and economic situation in Venezuela is very dire and there is a shortage of teachers and school supplies. To address the current situation and aid the school communities, six former students from Marist schools in Venezuela, living in the United States, have created the Ayuda a Educar foundation.

This foundation is dedicated to achieving three main goals. To aid teachers, students and to help provide resources that will allow the next generation of children to obtain the skills and knowledge to help them build a better future.

When invited to take part in this initiative, the administration was more than happy to help! This is a great way to demonstrate our sense of Marist Family Spirit! It is important for us, as a Marist community, to help our fellow colleagues. Afterall, we are in this mission together…we are a Marist Family!

With a plan underway, members of the board, Lucía Murlá and Dashiell López, came to speak to the faculty and staff about the organization and how we, as a school community, could help. During the meeting Mr. David Pugh, principal, and Bro. Al Rivera, Director of Service Learning, invited the faculty and staff to consider making a donation to help our fellow Marist educators. Needless to say, the faculty and staff responded generously. In addition, Mr. Thomas Kruczek, president of the school, announced that the school would match the funds collected by the faculty and staff. A total of $10,000 was raised and donated to the Ayuda a Educar foundation. Furthermore, students upon hearing about the situation also contributed to support Marist Educators in Venezuela.

Brothers Orlando Escobar, Provincial of the Province of Noranda, Daniel O’Riordan, Provincial of the Province of the United States, and Dorindo Burgo, Member of the Board, are extremely grateful for the generosity and concern shown to our fellow Marist Family in Venezuela. This is a wonderful way to be in solidarity with other who share our mission and concern for the education and well-being of children and young people.
