Explorers BBall Defeats Norland

Columbus (17-1) traveled to Norland (8-6) to play a non-conference game-winning 80-66.

Columbus continued their torrid, highly efficient play, shooting 60% from the field (30 of 50). The freshman trio of Boozer (Cayden), Boozer (Cameron) and Fragela (Benny) combined for 53 of the teams 80 point total. Fragela, the sharpshooting guard was 6 of 8 from the three stripe for 20 points. Cayden Boozer had a double double with10 assists to go with his 17 points.

Not to be outdone, brother Cameron also had a double double tallying 16 points and 11 rebounds. Garyn Bess finished with 13 points as the Explorers fourth and final double digit scorer. Columbus went into halftime with a comfortable 18 point lead but Norland came out with a renewed purpose in the 3rd Quarter, putting up 22 points against a usually stingy Columbus defense, while nearly equaling their entire 1st half output of 23 points. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Norland had cut the Columbus lead in half. Columbus was hanging on to a 9 point lead into the 4th quarter, as Norland's sophomore scoring star Marcus Allen was finishing with a game high 27 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter.

As the only other double digit scorer for the Vikings, Junior Carl Parrish contributed 14 points, On the other side of the 4th quarter ledger Columbus maintained a fairly comfortable margin of 9 to 14 points thanks mostly to Cayden Boozer's 12 points in that final frame, finishing a super-efficient  8 for 12 from midrange (66%), Wednesday (January 19) Columbus travels to Pembroke Pines Charter to take on the 2020-21 5A Florida State Champion Jaguars.
