Parrish Jr. Named Athlete of the Year

Senior running back and track star Henry Parrish Jr. wrapped-up an impressive year of honors on Wednesday evening as he was named the 7A-5A Boys Athlete of the Year during The Miami Herald’s All-County Athletic Awards ceremony.

Sponsored by Baptist Health South Florida’s Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute and presented by the Orange Bowl, the ceremony took place virtually this year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The event honored the top athletes and coaches in 10 sports for their achievements during the 2019-20 fall and winter seasons.

Parrish, the Miami-Dade 8A-6A Football Offensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, led the county with 2,318 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns as he helped the Explorers to a Class 8A football title – the 1st in school history. He’s headed to Ole Miss come fall.

Overall, the athletics program was named the ‘Best Boys High School Athletic Program’ (Big Schools) for the seventh time in the last 10 years.

Mike Marinelli ’03, Adam Scholer ’81 and Dave Dunn were all named Coach of the Year for their respective sports (golf, bowling and football).
