Anglers Club Report: Boaters Safety Course

The Columbus Anglers Club, in conjunction with the Monica Burguera Foundation and the United States Coast Guard Auxillary, hosted the clubs’ 5th Annual Boaters Safety Course.

The Monica Burguera Foundation was created in memory of Monica, a 20-year-old Florida International University student, who died in a boating accident during the 2006 Columbus Day Regatta.

The foundation sponsors the boater safety course and the gentleman of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary presents the course. The course is designed to bring awareness to boating safety in which each participant, once completed, will receive the USCG Auxiliary Certificate of Accomplishment and a Florida Boating Safety Identification card. The card is required to operate a boat for people born on, or after January 1, 1988.

There were over 30 students and two adults who got the opportunity to sit in on this course, one being our very own first year history teacher, Ms. Lee, who took advantage of taking the course.

This event marks the start of the Anglers Club multiple events for the 2019-20 school year.
