Explorers Finish 2nd at District Meet

The Varsity Wrestling Team finished 2nd at the District 15 Meet, qualifying 11 Explorers out of our 14 to this week’s Region 4-3A Championship. 

The Explorers finished 2nd to district rival Southwest.
 
Five Explorers finished atop the podium - Justin Valdes (11th – 113 lbs.), Charles Huffman (11th – 120 lbs.), Sebastian Melguizo (9th -126 lbs.), Ryan Gonzalez (11th – 145 lbs.) and Dylan Perez (11th - 285 lbs.) Finishing second were David Milton (11th – 138 lbs.) and Henry Fernandez (12th – 220 lbs.). Rounding out the placers in 3rd were Gavin Buck (9th – 106 lbs.), Ryan Doll (12th – 132 lbs.) and Brent Becerra (11th -160 lbs.) and 4th went to Zane Arteaga (11th – 182 lbs.). The region is comprised of four districts from Miami-Dade and Broward, making up a 16-man brackets. The top 4 finishers in each weight class will advance to the State Championship the following week.
