Grapplers Finish 2nd at John Raich Memorial

The Varsity Wrestling Team concluded their regular season at the John Raich Memorial 32-Team Invitational Tournament this past weekend at Jupiter, Florida.

The Explorers came home with the 2nd place team trophy (261 pts). Falling just short of defending champion Jensen Beach (271 pts) yet ahead of American Heritage (173 pts), St. Thomas Aquinas (141 pts) and Palm Beach Gardens (139 pts) to round out the Top 5 Teams.
 
Individually, 3 Explorers finished in 1st place, Justin Valdes (11th – 113 lbs.), Charles Huffman (11th – 120 lbs.) and Sebastian Melguizo (9th – 126 lbs.). Finishing second was Gavin Buck (9th -106 lbs.) and third were Ryan Doll (12th – 132 lbs.), Ryan Gonzalez (11th – 145 lbs.), Henry Fernandez (12th – 220 lbs.) and Dylan Perez (11th – 285 lbs.). Finishing fourth overall was David Milton (11th – 138 lbs.) and fifth was Brent Becerra (11th -160 lbs.).
 
The Explorers competed in 10 tournaments throughout the state beginning in November, finishing first twice, second five times and third three times while breaking the school’s old dual meet win record of 32 wins set last year with 37 wins in 2017-18.
