Columbus Debate Hosts, Sweeps Big Questions Tournament

The Columbus Debate Team hosted its second annual Columbus Big Questions Tournament Tuesday evening.

The tournament field was made up of mostly Explorers from the Debate I class and a lone Coral Park team.

The students tackled the question: Are humans fundamentally different than other animals? In a field of 15 teams of mostly sophomores and juniors, it was the Columbus freshmen duo of Michael Denis and Christopher de la Viesca, who finished undefeated and won the tournament. In 2nd place was the team of Javier Hernandez and Thomas Mackle. Finishing in 3rd, also with an undefeated record, was the sophomore team of Andrew Castro and Albert Sanchez. All three of these teams went 3-0 in their matches and were ranked based off total speaker points.

In 4th place was Michael Puig and Alec Faraldo and in 5th was the team of Gabriel Lafee and Evan Rumie. Both teams finished with a 2-1 record over our visitors from Coral Park who finished in 6th place.
