Anglers Club Tours MDFR Marine Ops

The Anglers Club was invited to take a tour of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Marine Operations facility, located on Dodge Island/Port of Miami.

This event was made possible by Lieutenant Miguel Rauseo, class of 1996.

The group of 25 had the opportunity to tour the Fire House followed by a very detailed PowerPoint presentation that outlined the correlations between the Anglers Club and the MDFD Marine Operations. The presentation also gave information on the history of the club, what it takes to safely and efficiently run a mission, what it takes to become certified to work for the department, what VHF channels to call in case of an emergency, and the 63 Columbus alumni that are associated with the department. The tour then proceeded with a boat ride aboard Fire Boat 73, which is their 50' vessel.

The boys got the opportunity to see how the boat electronics operate from within the cabin and seeing how the massive twin Caterpillar turbo diesel engines propel the 50-foot vessel through the water with ease. Robert MacKarvich, class of '04, even stopped by to give us a tour of his Florida Fish and Wildlife Contender boat as he was out and about patrolling the waterways.
