Varsity Golf Win Region 8-3A Championship

The varsity golf team captured the Region 8-3A Golf Championship at Weston Hills.

The Explorer team took 1st, 2nd and 4th individually as they were well on their way to a 32 stroke victory over over second place Western High School. The golf team advances to the FHSAA Class 3A State Championship next week at Mission Inn in Howey in the Hills, Florida. They are one of 16 teams left in the state tournament.

The top two scores today came from Sharif Amastha (12th) and Jose Perez (10th). They both shot 73 and went into a sudden death playoff for the individual regional title. Rarely do you see two guys from the same school go against each other and that is just exactly what happened in the playoff. Sharif and Jose both birdied playoff hole number one eliminating the Palmetto golfer who was also in the playoff. On the second hole, Sharif birdied again to take the individual title going -2 in his final two playoff holes! What a finish!!

Final scores today were:
Sharif Amastha 73 (+1) *Won individual playoff
Jose Perez 73 (+1) **2nd place individual
Roberto Nieves 75 (+3) t-4th individual
David Ragan IV 77 (+5)
Luis Suarez 78 (+6)
