CCHS Athletic Trainers Host Potentially Life-Saving Exam

Christopher Columbus High School and Head Athletic Trainer Br. Herb Baker have joined forces with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and a number of local doctors to give incoming freshman football players and cross country runners the most comprehensive mandatory physical exam for high school athletes in the south Florida area.

The June 3rd physical held on campus at Columbus in the gym is the only program of its kind locally to offer high school athletes a comprehensive cardiac screening, including echocardiography, a type of ultrasound that can detect abnormalities in the size and shape of the heart, as well as identify any tissue damage.

The exam will also include a regulatory blood pressure check and full physical, taking the class of 2021 incoming freshman through multiple stations and we are asking all athletes to wear gym attire. Please download the FHSAA Physical Form and NCH EKG Form, fill it out and bring it the day of the physical.

Ultimately, our goal is to keep all Columbus athletes safe.
