Senior Named Morehead-Cain Scholar

Senior Jesus Javier Rodriguez is the 2nd Explorer to receive the Morehead-Cain Scholarship.

It is unprecedented that a Columbus student earns this honor in back-to-back years.

Every year 70 students receive this prestigious honor, although half of them come from the state of North Carolina. Leaving only 35 spots for the most competitive high school students throughout the entire country! It is for this reason why a Columbus student winning this award, two years in a row is so impressive.

The Morehead-Cain is the oldest and most prestigious merit scholarship program in the US and was inspired by the Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University. It was founded at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (our country's first public university).  Thus making this scholarship the oldest and most prestigious in the country.

The scholarship covers four years’ tuition, room and board, annual stipends, travel costs, endless networking and research opportunities, and four fully funded summer experiences which include themed experiences all over the world!
