Special Screening of Operation Pedro Pan

Columbus will be hosting a special screening of "Operation Pedro Pan: The Cuban Children's Exodus," a documentary illustrating the story of more than 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban children that left their homeland from 1960-62.

This was the largest recorded child refugee exodus in the Western Hemisphere.

The documentary, which runs for 90 minutes, is based on research undertaken by the Historic Committee and 22 interviews that were conducted of former Pedro Pans, Pedro Pan mothers, caretakers and historian. The interviews cover life in Cuba before 1959 and the drastic changes brought about by the Revolution, their unaccompanied exodus from the Island, arrival and adaptation to life in the US. They conclude with their reflections of their lives some 55 years later.

Immediately following the documentary, historian and author of Fleeing Castro: Operation Pedro Pan and the Cuban Children’s Program, Victor Triay '84 and the film’s executive producer, Carmen Valdivia will host a Q&A session.

Where: Columbus Café
When: Tuesday, October 22, 2019
