SportsCenter Honors SC Top 10 Athlete Parrish Jr.

For years, ESPN’s SportsCenter has been featuring everyday unsung athletes on air. Now, SportsCenter is shining a spotlight on these athletes in their very own communities.

On Friday, September 13, ESPN was on site to celebrate and commemorate hometown football star Henry Parrish Jr. for his achievement in making it into SportsCenter’s iconic Top 10 plays list.

Parrish made the SC Top 10 when he barreled over or faked out nearly half of the defenders on the field and exploded his way into the end zone for a touchdown during Columbus’ 41-7 win over Belen Jesuit on August 21. Parrish rushed for 324 yards in the game and scored three touchdowns.

"We had first and 10, with the ball on the Belen 26,” said Dave Dunn, head coach at Columbus. “We were running inside zone to the left, trying to get the ball in a position to score. Henry made an unbelievable cutback, took it up the sideline, and made about five guys miss.

“I actually didn't see the end of the play because I though he was down about three different times,” Dunn said. “I was walking away, and I didn't see him break all those tackles. I turned around just in time to see the referee put his hands up in the air, and I was as shocked as anyone else, and I was even more shocked when I saw the replay after the game. Quite simply, it was the greatest run I’ve ever seen by a high school player."

Currently a University of Pittsburgh commit, Parrish is a two-sport star and two-time state champion in track and field (2018 & 2019).

A unique and custom designed public installation that pays homage to his incredible #SCTop10 viral play will be unveiled to Parrish on Friday as he is surrounded by his teammates and coaches.

Parrish is one of 10 athletes that ESPN is commemorating locally in their hometowns. Each will also be featured nationally on SportsCenter on October 10th (10/10), designated as SC Top 10 Day. Collectively, they represent a mix of incredible feats that SC Top 10 features year-round – athletic prowess, moments that carry extra magnitude, and stories that feel bigger than sports. Moving forward, SportsCenter will continue to celebrate the next generation of Top 10-ers with a rewards kit that will allow them to share and archive their achievements.
