Golf Team Goes 1-1 Against Top Opponents

The Varsity Golf team had matches on Wednesday and Thursday of last week and played two different groups of players for each match, hoping to get some experience in for the young Explorers.

On Wednesday, the golf team had an 18-hole match that was cut short to 9 holes, due to inclement weather against American Heritage (top ranked team in the state). The team came up just two strokes short of victory - 145-147 - and were led by junior Justin Rodriguez at +1 (37) and freshman Christian Figueredo +1 (37). Andres Atrio (38), Sebastian Kawas (38), Jose Perez (38), Max Fonseca (39), David Ragan (39), Hans Risvaer (39) all broke 40, which is not easy to do as a team.

Thursday, the second team came out victorious against Archbishop McCarthy 158-178. The Explorers were led by junior Gabriel Niembro, who shot a -1 36 at Grand Palms. Christian Figueredo shot 39, Lance Jerauld (41), Luis Perez (42), Jimmy Friguls (46), and Hudson Giordano (47) all played well in their first match of the season.
