Explorers Attend Climate Conference
Theology Department Chair, Mr. Pedro Marti, took a group of 22 of our young men to witness and participate in the 2nd International Conference on Climate, Nature, and Society.
It was an enriching experience as students were able to listen to speakers such as:
Tebaldo Vinciguerra: from the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Human Development (also helped transcribe the groundbreaking encyclical on climate change Laudato Si).
Dr. Ben Kirtman: Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Miami
Oliver Gilert: Mayor of Miami Gardens
Sarita Turner: Director of the Institute for Sustainable Communities
The speakers gave great insight not only into the science of climate change, but also our responsibility as stewards of creation to take radical and immediate action to address such a pressing crisis. Our boys asked great questions and Father Alfred Cioffi, who organized the conference, expressed his thanks to our entire faculty and staff for helping shape such impressive young men.
Brotherhood, Faith, and Scholarship define the Marist Brothers Catholic education at Christopher Columbus High School. By making Jesus Christ known and loved and creating an inspiring academic and extracurricular environment, we prepare young men for higher learning and a life-long commitment to leadership and service through Gospel and Marist values.
Columbus is fully accredited by Cognia and is a member of the Marist Association of Secondary schools, the National Catholic Education Association and the Independent Schools of South Florida.
