Explorers Win New Years Wrestling Tournament

The Varsity Wrestling Team started off the New Year with a bang by winning the Bradenton Manatee New Years’ Invitational Wrestling Tournament this past weekend on Florida's west coast.
 
On Friday, the Explorers soundly defeated Bayside 75-6, Newsome 72-10 and Park Vista 63-12 before advancing to Saturday's matches where the defeated Bloomingdale 63-15, North Port 58-15, Forsyth Central (Georgia) 45-33, Tallahassee Lincoln 51-22 in the semifinals and then host Bradenton Manatee in the tournament’s final match 43-30.
 
Individuals who performed well and provided leadership throughout the long weekend were senior captains Charles Huffman 120 lbs., Justin Valdes 126 lbs., Ryan González 152 lbs. and Carmine D'Ascoli 195 lbs. Justin Valdes was also awarded for his strong academic GPA achievement while sophomore Dylan Mira went undefeated in his weight class 132 lbs.
 
The teams record is currently 18-2 going into District Duals this coming week.
