Henrique Marttos '28 Secures Funding for Clinical Research Project

Christopher Columbus High School student Henrique Marttos '28 recently achieved a major milestone in his research journey, securing the remaining funding needed to launch a clinical study through support from the Buoniconti Fund and The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Henrique presented his clinical research proposal to researchers and board members of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and the Buoniconti Fund. The study will evaluate the usability of a head mouse device designed to improve digital accessibility for individuals with neuromotor disabilities. The project will involve both patients from The Miami Project and students from Christopher Columbus High School.

After previously being recognized as one of the Launchpad winners, Henrique received additional funding during the meeting to help bring the study to life.

Among those in attendance were Dr. Barth Green, Chairman and Co-founder of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis; Dr. W. Dalton Dietrich, Scientific Director of The Miami Project; Dr. David McMillan, Director of Education and Outreach and Henrique's mentor for the project; Suzie Sayfie, Director of The Miami Project and the Buoniconti Fund; Stephanie Sayfie Aagaard, Executive Director of The Miami Project; and Ronald Manning, Research Manager at The Miami Project.

This accomplishment reflects Henrique's commitment to innovation, research, and serving others through science. Columbus proudly celebrates his achievement and looks forward to the positive impact his work will have on individuals with neuromotor disabilities.
