Andres Rossi-Montero Receives Sebastian Ortiz Memorial Scholarship

Earlier this week, Christopher Columbus High School welcomed Oscar Ortiz ’88, Executive Director of Sebastian Strong, back to campus to present the Sebastian Ortiz Memorial Scholarship to Andres Rossi-Montero, a member of the Class of 2026.

Established in memory of Sebastian Ortiz ’18, the scholarship honors a student who has demonstrated excellence in science and whose life and career aspirations reflect a commitment to serving others through medicine, research, and compassionate care.

Andres was selected for his outstanding dedication to both the study and practice of medicine. Through his training in Columbus’ EMT Program, an internship at Baptist Hospital, and service work in rural communities throughout the Dominican Republic, he has consistently demonstrated the qualities of a future healthcare leader. His commitment to helping others extends beyond the clinical setting as the founder of B.R.A.V.E., an initiative dedicated to combating violence and exploitation.

The scholarship celebrates students who embody the values that defined Sebastian’s life: perseverance, compassion, and a desire to make a meaningful impact on the world. Andres’ accomplishments and aspirations exemplify those ideals, making him a deserving recipient of this distinguished honor.

Christopher Columbus High School extends its gratitude to Oscar Ortiz, Sebastian Strong, and the Ortiz family for continuing to honor Sebastian’s legacy by investing in future generations of Explorers dedicated to service and healing.
