There are many ways to volunteer and collect hours towards your Christopher Columbus High School graduation requirement. Below you will find some opportunities that go on throughout the school year as well as on specific dates/times.       Volunteers will serve as one-to-one "soccer buddies" with special needs children.  
      Required: energy, patience, responsibility and the desire to make a difference in the lives of special needs children.  Strong soccer skills are not required

      Volunteers Activities:
      Event setup like collecting tickets, helping with decorations and helping put decorations away after events.

      Volunteer Activities: 
      • Glow Party:   Volunteers will mainly assist the museum staff with set-up and clean up
      • Not So Scary Family Bash:  Volunteers will assist in trick-or-treating stations, checking-in guests, providing maps and goodie bags, assist in the food serving areas, helping kids decorate pumpkins, guide families through the haunted house, and other activities.
      • Halloween Weekend:  Some of the duties are similar to those of the family bash. 
       
      Volunteer Requirements: 
      • The minimum age to volunteer is 16
      • If you are volunteering for more than one opportunity, you must attend orientation.
      • Dress code: Long pants (jeans or khakis), with no holes. Closed toed shoes only. For the Halloween events, you may wear an appropriate costume. 
      • If volunteering more than one opportunity, a t-shirt will be provided.

    • Blue Missions - Summer 2020

      Blue Missions Service Trips
      Blue Missions is dedicated to improving public health by providing families with clean water and sanitary environments. Through sustainable, community-owned projects, Blue Missions works with locals in the Dominican Republic and other developing countries in Latin America to empower progress and transform rural communities for the better. Blue Missions allows volunteers to travel with them to lend a hand in the construction of these projects in order to educate them about global inequality and inspire them to become the change-makers of the future.  This experience has been transformational for hundreds of Columbus students in recent years.

      Note:  In order to defray the cost of their airfare, travel insurance, board and room, volunteers are expected to pay a fee of $1,250 plus a fundraising contribution of:
      • $250 (for sanitation projects)
      • $500 (for water projects)
      Applications for Blue Missions 2020 Opens on October 1st at 4 PM
      Note: Applicants who sign up for their priority list will have access to start the application on Monday, September 30. You won't able to file your application until October 1st at 4 pm but you will have about a 15-minute advantage if you fill out the application the day before.

      Blue Missions will hold four information sessions in September.  Learn how to  secure a spot by applying correctly and on-time.

      • Gallery Gurus: You will have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the daily operations of the Museum as you interact with our guests. Gallery gurus are responsible for ensuring our guests have the best experience possible. 
      • Birthday Buddy: Help children celebrate their birthdays at the Museum. 
      • Art Studio Volunteer: Help our Studio Artist in our art studio. Prep art activities for our visitors and outreach programs. 
      • Exhibits Volunteer: Be a part of the creativity and dynamic processes behind the success of the Museum experiences. Imagine, plan, develop, design and test the always changing exhibits.

    • Volunteer with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (Miami Chapter)
