The members of the Guidance Department and Mas Family Program would like to reassure all of our families that we are here to support the students’ academic and emotional needs. Due to the school’s closure, we will begin our new “normal” and switch to virtual learning. We will continue to work closely with your son’s teachers and monitor their progress as our goal is to encourage students to maintain their focus and not lose momentum through the fourth quarter. For this reason, we are available via email, phone conferences, and have also set up office hours which allows us to communicate via Google Hangouts or Zoom. We ask that you please also monitor your son’s engagement, and should you have any concerns, please reach out to his counselor so that together we can ensure success.
 
We are here to assist you in this time of uncertainty and change. Students are expected to constantly check their OnCampus for class updates, therefore, we also expect them to check the Guidance section. We will be posting resources, articles, and other helpful information on the Guidance bulletin board via OnCampus.

Information for AP Students Affected by Coronavirus

The College Board released a statement recognizing that the usual way Advanced Placement (AP) Exams are given at schools will not be possible. Therefore, traditional face-to-face exam administrations will not take place. 
  • Students will take a 45-minute online free-response exam at home using any device-computer, tablet, or smartphone.  
  • Some students may want to take the exam sooner rather than later, while the content is still fresh. Other students may want more time to practice. For each AP subject, there will be 2 different testing dates. Testing dates will be available April 3.
  • Beginning March 25th, the College Board will also be providing students with free remote learning resources which are mobile friendly and will be on demand for students to access at any time. 
  • As all of our AP teachers continue with distance-learning plans, they are aware of the College Board’s plan to reduce exam content, and they will continue to provide the best support possible for our students.

SAT & ACT Updates

  • March 24, 2020 - ACT/Pre-ACT @ Columbus (Cancelled)

    Currently, we are waiting for communication from ACT regarding the possibility of creating another late Spring administration of the ACT/Pre-ACT at Columbus. As additional information comes available, we will advise you accordingly.
  • April 4, 2020 - ACT (Cancelled)

    Students registered for the April 4th test date will receive an email from ACT in the next few days informing them of the postponement and instructions for free rescheduling to either the June 13th or a future national test date.

  • May 2, 2020 - SAT (Cancelled)

    Students who already registered for May, whose March test centers were closed, or who do not receive March scores because of any irregularities will receive refunds. Refunds will be processed within the next few weeks.
  • Future Testing Opportunities

    College Board will provide future additional SAT testing opportunities for students as soon as possible in place of canceled administrations.

    At this time, College Board has NOT cancelled the June 6, 2020 SAT.

    Currently, they are exploring the possibility of adding an international SAT administration later this school year.

    College Board will continue to assess the situation, with the health and safety of students and educators as their top priority.
