Columbus is Chosen as a Smart Showcase School
for being a Leader in the Use of Technology
Columbus was notified by SMART Technologies that the school was chosen to be a “Smart Showcase School” for being a leader in the adoption and use of technology that improves student outcomes and teacher effectiveness. There are fewer than 170 Smart Showcase Schools and Districts across the United States and Canada. Columbus is now the only school currently in Dade and Broward counties with the designation.
Being a Smart Showcase School means that the school will be looked upon as a leader and will be expected to host events and accept visits from other educators or schools interested in learning the best practices for integrating technology in the classroom. The designation comes with many benefits including: global recognition as a technology innovator, testing of new SMART products and services at school, opportunity to share best practices with nearby peers and colleagues, special offers and credits on SMART products and services. “SMART Showcase Schools were established to recognize leading schools for their creativity and commitment to the effective implementation of technology in the classroom,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s CEO. “These schools are leaders in this regard, and they are making a significant contri bution to other educators' understanding of technology use in classrooms across North America.”
SMART, a private technology company, developed the world’s first interactive whiteboard in 1991 which is used in many schools. In addition to featuring SMARTBOARDS in all classrooms, Columbus also uses the SMART Notebook and SMART Ideas Concept Mapping Software, Response Interactive Systems, the SMART Slate, and other products.
The Columbus Faculty Member who will act as the Smart Technologies Liason in this effort is Ms. Mary T. McCullagh.
