Columbus Becomes Affiliate in the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History School Program

The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History selected Columbus as an affiliate in their School Program for having a great commitment to improving American history education.

The program is a unique gateway to education resources, events, and tools designed to bring American history to life in the classroom. This nationwide network of schools connects teachers and students to valuable resources, including:

  • An Affiliate School web portal with lesson plans, teachable documents, videos, podcasts, toolkits, and more.
  • Professional development opportunities, including regional forums and summer seminars.
  • Free and discounted books, multimedia kits, and traveling exhibitions.
  • Priority access to professional development opportunities, including training workshops and summer seminars.
  • Free and discounted publications and classroom materials, including posters, books, and resource boxes.
  • Themed sets of documents reproduced from an archive of more than 60,000 rare historic manuscripts.
  • Recorded lectures by major historians (DVDs and podcasts)
  • Invitation-only access to forums for students led by eminent professors.
  • Traveling exhibitions on important historical topics.
  • Models and technical assistance for Saturday history programs.
  • Eligibility for national history prizes for students and teachers.
  • Guidance and materials for history clubs.
  • Advice on government grant opportunities.
  • Consulting services from GLI education coordinators.
