Joseph Perretta Wins the Debate Tournament of Champions

Joseph Perretta won the Tournament of Champions in Lexington, Kentucky in May. This is the crowning achievement of a debate career and is a huge accomplishment for Joe (and he’s only a junior!).

Invitations to the Tournament of Champions are determined by merits earned throughout the entire year at other tournaments. Typically, a student gets invited to the TOC when he has earned two high placing positions at national tournaments. Comparatively, Joe earned himself eleven merits (a national record) prior to the tournament.

At the tournament, Joe gave close to twenty speeches over the weekend, received first seeding after preliminary rounds and won the final round by a large margin of judge preferential points.

This is the first time that Columbus has ever won the Tournament of Champions (and it was the first time we’ve been in finals since 1995).

Congratulations Joe on a historic year and on an outstanding feat accomplished and
Congratulations to Mr. Randall Martinez, the deabte moderator, and the whole team!
