Columbus Succeeds in AP Program

According to the College Board's 2007 Report to the Nation, Christopher Columbus High School was identified as having more Hispanic students succeed in the Advanced Placement Exams in Microeconomics and U.S. Government & Politics than any other school in the world. This is the 3rd year in a row that the school received this distinction for its microeconomics program.

Why is this important?
Research finds that success in AP exam grades is a strong predictor of a student's ability to achieve college success and graduation.

“At Columbus we are dedicated to providing students with a challenging curricula with a variety of AP courses.  This recognition from the College Board acknowledges the hard work of our faculty, staff and students.,” said Br. Patrick McNamara, Principal of Christopher Columbus High School.  The school currently has 478 students participating in advanced placement classes and 398 participating in dual enrollment classes.  AP Microeconomics is led by faculty member Daniel Ciocca while AP U.S. Government & Politics is led by Ms. Mary McCullagh (pictured above).. Both teachers worked extensively with the students to prepare them for the demanding coursework.

According to the College Board whose mission is to prepare, inspire, and connect students to college success and opportunity, Christopher Columbus High School is a model for schools worldwide that are preparing students for success in such rigorous curricula.
