Michael Received a Scholarship; Mrs. Sanchez Received the Educator of Distinction Award

On May 23, 2011, Mr. Eddie Diaz, the Community Marketing Director for the South Florida Marketing Unit for Coca-Cola came to Columbus to honor Michael Rodriguez for being the recipient a 2011 $10,000 Coca-Cola Scholarship. The company received over 70,000 applications from seniors nationwide for this scholarship program. Michael was one of 250 finalists that were chosen to receive a scholarship.

As part of the program, Michael was asked to choose an educator of distinction whom would also be honored by Coca-Cola. Michael chose Mrs. Alina Sanchez, long-time Columbus science teacher who is currently the Chair of the science department.

She was presented with a special certificate from Coca-Cola with the following message that was written by Michael: "Your dedication to teaching me in the sciences and your assistance throughout the science fairs has had a profound impact on my future. For teaching me, for inspiring me, for believing in me, I designate you as my educator of distinction."

Congratulations to Michael and Mrs. Sanchez!
