While attending Columbus back in the 1970s Patrick was a yearbook photographer. He then went on to graduate from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Television and Film Production.
He has worked at the Miami Herald since 1987. His Herald assignments have taken him to Turkey, Haiti, Cuba, and South America. He was part of the Herald staff that won the 1993 Pulitzer for the coverage of Hurricane Andrew’s devastation in South Florida. In 2009 Patrick was awarded the most important award in journalism, the Pulitzer Prize, for his photographs of the victims of the storms that ravaged Haiti in 2008.
