In 2008 Columbus launched a new monthly lunch program for alumni. The ReDiscover Columbus Luncheons bring alumni together not only for a special time of reminiscing over lunch but to learn about all of Columbus’ great accomplishments, tour the new facilities, and participate in a mini focus group about today’s perceptions of the school. Alumni leave amazed at all of the improvements and prouder than ever of their
school.
“This is a wonderful endeavor.” said Tony Nardo, class of ‘87, who recently participated. “I believe the focus group is an excellent idea.” he said. The ReDiscover Columbus Luncheons were the idea of Br. Kevin who wanted to start an effort to get alumni to come back to Columbus to see all of the wonderful improvements. When he presented the idea to the school directory, the members were all for it. In fact, directory members Mick Maspons, class of ’81, and Daniel Martinez, class of ’89, along with Associate Development Director Juan Gomez are in charge of recruiting alumni and are present for the luncheons. “We are grateful and appreciative of Columbus for opening its doors for us.” said Ralph Rivero, class of ‘84. “It’s amazing that the bonds, values and ideals which formed us by the Marist brothers during our adolescent years, are still as strong as ever. It was important for me, as an alumnus to have the interaction with the administration on a personal level. It shows the level of commitment and passion that these individuals put forth in making Columbus the best Catholic High School in Dade County.” said Raul.
The lunches are planned to take place on a regular basis. If you are interested in participating contact Mr. Juan Gomez, Associate Development Director at jgomez@columbushs.com or 305-223-5650 x2237.
