Dear Perspective Parents and Students,

Selecting a Catholic high school that will meet the goals and dreams of both parents and students is a very important step in the life of a young man as well as his family.  In my 40 years as a Marist educator, I have learned that a school must have the right fit, “a sense of being at home”.  A student must feel comfortable as well as challenged; he must excel in his academic work, and there must be opportunities in athletics and extracurricular activities for him to commit his time and attention to develop his potential.

For the past 50 years, Columbus has created a reputation that is second to none as a “college preparatory” high school, as well as a Catholic educational institution of faith.  One has only to look at our product “our alumni” to be immediately convinced that Columbus is the place for you and your son.

Statement to Verify Appropriate Status - After September 11, 2001, the Department of Homeland Security (BCIS) expects the schools to have complete and accurate information pertaining to any foreign student entering their school.  We must make sure that our students have the appropriate status that allows them to attend school in the United States.  Students who are changing their “tourist B-1” status to a “student F-1” status should have their status granted before attending school.

Choosing a high school is an important decision for a young man and his family. There are a variety of questions about visiting the school, the entrance exam and the application process. The event gives 8th grade boys and their families the chance to tour the school, talk with students, meet with teachers, coaches, and staff, and review the academic, athletic, extracurricular, and spiritual programs available at Columbus. This year, our open house events will take place on Saturday,
December 6, 2008 at 1:00 pm.

-Talk to current students. Students who attend Columbus will give you an inside perspective on what life as an Explorer is like on a daily basis.

-Examine the academic programs available. A school should have a support system for everyone. At Columbus we have a three phase college preparatory program that ensures our students find their strengths and build on them.

-See what sports are offered for each year level. If you are an athlete, Columbus has a variety of impressive sports teams.

-Check out the clubs and activities available because sports are not always for everyone. At Columbus we have a wide variety of options. Columbus will help you find your niche.

-Attend an event at the school, depending on your interests.

-Catholic school students are asked to see what day your school will be attending the DISCOVER COLUMBUS program.
